A long awaited parcel arrived at last
!
I was really excited to receive this parcel from USA this afternoon !! It’s a sample of Country Save detergent that I have heard so much about. It has received so many glowing testimonials from cloth diapering moms in the USA that I feel that I just have to try it out !

Country Save detergent
Country Save detergent, which is a natural, fully bio-degradable detergent, is said to contain no perfumes, dyes, optical fillers and brighteners that remain in your clothes after washing and what really caught my eye was that many of the moms have reported that it is no longer necessary to add fabric softener to their laundry anymore. Also many of these moms have switched completely to Country Save for all their laundry, not just for their cloth diapers.

You only need to use so little
For front loaders, you only need to use half of the little scoop’s worth of the detergent. I figured that if you work out the per wash cost of this detergent, it may workout cheaper than the store bought ones.
This sounds fantastic to me
! We are in the process of test driving this detergent with our laundry and boy, our family of 7 does have a lot of laundry to be washed to each day.
If this detergent passes with flying colours, you can be sure that we will be the first in Singapore to bring it in.

We fully cloth diaper our kids and try to do so even on holidays. We try to minimise our use of disposables due to two reasons: we really dislike the idea of contributing to the landfills and more importantly, our babies’ bottoms do not take very kindly to the chemical laden disposable diapers, even for a short period of 2 weeks, used as they are to the cool comfort of cloth diapers all along.
So how do we cloth diaper even during holidays away from home ?
For us, if the holiday is to a beach resort with plenty of sunshine to line dry the diapers, then it is really easy to do totally without disposables at all. Even if the holiday is in a metropolitan city like Sydney, we still managed to cloth diaper because we stayed in a neat service apartment with a washer and a dryer. So, the key is really whether or not we can easily launder the dipes and dry them.
When we went to places like Tokyo, Hong Kong and Bangkok, we stayed in hotels with exorbitant laundry fees. In these cases, we had no choice but to use some disposables. Like most fully cloth-diapered kids, they are not usually thrilled to be in a paper underwear so as a compromise we usually let them use their cloth diaper overnight in the hotel.
So remember, it is possible to be green even while you are on holidays

I received a sweet email from a customer, Petrina and she wrote “You have a great product and I love the pro-customer stance you have. From the excellent pre- and post-sales service to the continuous innovation. I have seen your product upgrade over these two years — wider pockets so it’s easier to fit the inserts, mini inserts, pocketed inserts so they are easier to dry, longer inserts, extra buttons to make a better fit around the legs and these are just improvements to the main Bumwear line! Thanks for making my life easier and my babies’ bums happy!”
This email makes me recall the very many improvements we have made to our best-selling one size Bumwear diapers from when we first started selling them, way back in 2002. I think we were then among the first, if not the first, to sell one size pocket diapers.
The following diaper photos show the evolution of Bumwear diapers.

This is a post unrelated to Bumwear diapers.Nevertheless still a very interesting topic as many moms have asked me about what I did with Kenan’s placenta since many of them knew that I brought it home from the hospital with me.
It happily stayed in our freezer for 3 months until one day in September 2007 I stopped proscastinating and went down to Far East Flora in Thomson Road to choose the plant I wanted to plant over his placenta.
